Design Inspiration: Steven Gambrel

Based in the heart of the West Village is another favorite designer of mine, Steven Gambrel. Steven Gambrel is the founder and president of S.R. Gambrel. Inc.,  an influential design firm specializing in both residential and commercial commissions, as well as custom products and furnishings.  Steven founded the firm in 1996, only three years after earning  a degree in architecture from UVA. Here are some of my favorite designs of his. I hope you enjoy and have a great weekend!!

Happy One Year Anniversary Joey!

This is a day late, but I was not near a computer yesterday to post this and thought better late than never! Joey we made it one year! Thank you for letting me win every fight and for always giving me crazy love! I love you and am so blessed to have you as my husband, you really are my better half!

The Ultimate Beach House: Something's Gotta Give

I am sorry I have been MIA this past week. I was on vacation with my family in Bethany Beach, DE and am having serious Monday blues this morning and missing the beach and my family already.
I do not think I am alone in my obsession with the beach house from the movie Something's Gotta Give. I think every beach house since this movie has gotten some kind of inspiration from this look. The production design was done by Jon Hutman, who also worked on The Holiday. The set decoration for this film was done by Beth Rubino who also did Its Complicated, another favorite movie house of mine!

Happy Flag Day!!

Next to Christmas and St. Patrick's Day the Fourth of July is probably my favorite holiday. It is right in the middle of summer (my happy time) and it is always celebrated with family and friends, good food, games, fireworks, cake walks and of course a parade!

I know it is not here yet, and I am not wishing away the summer, but Flag Day always starts to get me in the patriotic mood! I start thinking about different ways to incorporate the flag into my house decor, a different place or way to hang a flag, what to use for the table settings and how to decorate my cake for the cake walk!

When we were little my mom would dress us up for the Fairhaven Fourth of July Parade as either suffragettes, the actual flag (just the flag wrapped around our body) or the statue of Liberty (which made the local paper!). I will have to dig up these old photos and will share on the actual 4th of July! In the meantime here are some flag images to get you inspired!

"Life is a great big canvas, throw all the paint on it you can." -Danny Kaye

I love this quote and I thought it was appropriate for this week since I am currently working on a variety of side projects from wedding planning to home staging to helping a client finish decorating her living room and dining room. Sometimes I think I am spreading myself too thin but this line encourages me to keep dabbling in all kinds of things!

For those of you who do not know who Danny Kaye is, he was a celebrated American actor, singer, dancer and comedian who plays Phil Davis in the beloved musical film White Christmas! If you have never seen White Christmas, I highly encourage you to see it at some point this next Christmas season. It is a Christmas classic that everyone should see at some point in their life!

Yesterday I made the trip to Home Goods and World Market to try and find some pieces for a client's home. I was trying to focus on lamps, accent chairs, and stools but my wandering eye got the best of me and I could not help but take some photos of a few other items.
