Maggie O'Neill

Happy Friday everyone! I wanted to post about someone fabulous this Friday who has inspired me over the past few years with her spirited and genius creativity and positive carefree work ethic. Her name is Maggie O'Neill and she is an artist as well as an interior designer who has been making homes, restaurants and bars all over DC works of art ! Have a look at some of her work!

 For Lincoln Restaurant she mounted thousands of penny's all over the ground to create the floor tiling in addition to a Penny DC Flag wall! For Teddy and the Bully Bar, she used a faux wood grain patina mirror as a wall and used rifles as the stems to the dining tables. For Capitale she did a "Hogwarts meets Hollywood" transformation using black & white checkered floors and slanted columns with floor to ceiling rustic windows which play home to hidden leather bound library books! Her artwork alone is inspiring which she incorporates into some of her restaurants such as Lincoln!

John Robshaw Textiles 

"After John Robshaw earned a fine arts degree at Pratt and studied traditional block printing in China, John "I-Caught-the-Asia-Bug" Robshaw journeyed to India to find natural indigo dye for his paintings. Instead, he fell in love with the local artisans fabric-making traditions. The hands-on immediacy and vitality of textiles dyed, printed, woven, stitched, and worn piqued what was to become a lifelong fascination."

I have been looking for pillows that will give my clients room a more interesting mix, but that  can still blend well with other patterns, both modern and vintage. Sheila Bridges

Designer Sheila Bridges was just featured in this month's House Beautiful for Kitchen of the Month!

I love how brave her work is, and that she is not afraid to use bold colors or have everything match perfectly. I love how she made this small kitchen so exciting and interesting. She used an unexpected elegant metallic wallpaper that is one of her own designs, inspired by a painted ceiling she saw while in design school in Italy.

I also love how economical she is, finding the white marble subway tile online at homedepot.com and the Carrara marble for the counter tops in the store at Home Depot. She got them in polished which cut costs as well as painting the wood floor in Farrow & Ball's All White, instead of refinishing it.

My favorite part of the whole kitchen is the lantern by Allison Spear for Stephanie Odegard which Bridges found at a sample sale years ago that she pulled out of a box to hang here. Bridges says "Sometimes an unplanned moment ends up being your favorite thing in a room." I could not agree more!

India Hicks


One of the first design books I ever bought was by David Hicks, who was probably the most famous decorator of the 60's. David Hicks was a design genius and inspired many with bold colors and unexpected pattern combinations, his rigorous tailored looks as well as his mastery of tablescapes, which I still look to for inspiration and are still so relevant even today.  

 His daughter, India Hicks, is a former fashion model who inherited her father's good taste and has a more casual laid back design approach shown below in her home, Hibiscus Hill, in the Bahamas. She lives at Hibiscus Hill with her partner, interior designer David Flint Wood, and their four children.

Bone Inlay Pieces

 I love these pieces that were featured in last month's Elle Decor Magazine. I would love to watch someone make these and see the whole process from start to finish. I just think bone inlay pieces are awesome, they add such a rich and eclectic feel to every space.
